Before God created the world, everything was dark. There was nothing, no earth and no sky, no moon and no sun. Just darkness, water and God.
On the first day, God said “Let there be light” and there was light. He said “I shall call the light Day and the darkness Night” and he was very pleased. On the second day God made air. He was pleased again. Now there was air, water and light.
On the third day God was very busy. He brought all the water together and called it Sea. At the same time he made dry land. This is called Earth. Now there was Earth and Sea. He was very pleased. “The earth can now grow plants” he said. “Each plant will make seeds and those seeds will make new plants.” God watched everything begin to grow. He was very happy.
On the fourth day, God made the sun, the moon and all the stars. The sun was made to bring light in the daytime, and the moon and stars to shine all night long. God thought that the world was beginning to look like a nice place.
On day five, God was very busy. He made creatures to live in the sea, and ones to live in the sky. He made all kinds of fish, and whales and walruses and put them in the sea. He filled the sky with birds. Each one was different. He was very pleased.
On day six, God decided to make some animals to put on the earth. He made cats and dogs, spiders and flies, tigers and zebras. He made them all, big and small. The God thought He would make some people. And so, he made us! That evening, when he had finished, he looked out and was very happy. The six days that he had worked to make the world had been very busy. On day seven he rested. |
