BIBLE STORIES

  Jesus and his disciples had been very busy. They were tired and wanted to rest. So Jesus decided that they should take a boat across Lake Galilee and go to a quiet and peaceful place to rest.

 

  While the boat was crossing the lake, hundreds of people wanting to meet Jesus ran along the shore to meet it. They all had heard of the stories of Jesus healing the sick and they all wanted to see him do such special things or miracles.

 

  When they finally arrived, all the people gathered around Jesus and he began to teach them. Everyone listened carefully to what he had to say. Time flew by and the day turned into evening and still people listened. It was quite late when people started to fidget. They started to get hungry. The disciples turned to Jesus and said “Jesus, these people are hungry. They need to eat! Let’s send them to the villages to buy some food.” Jesus looked at them and said “Why can’t you buy them some food? You’ve got money”. The disciples looked at each other and said “But we don’t have nearly enough money to feed all these people! There are thousands of them!” So Jesus asked them what they had.

 

  The disciples went away to see what they had. When they came back, they spoke to Jesus. “We’ve just got five loaves and two fish” they said. Jesus sat the crowd down in groups, all five thousand of them. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looked up to heaven and blessed them.

 

  Suddenly there was enough food for everyone. Baskets and baskets of it! Jesus broke the bread and gave it to his disciples to share out, and while he was doing that, more and more bread appeared. The same thing happened with the fish.

 

  So everybody ate until they were full and when the disciples collected up the leftovers, they found there were still twelve baskets full of food! No one could believe it.
